Can WooCommerce accept Bitcoin?

Yes. WooCommerce supports additional payment gateways through WordPress plugins. BTCPay Server documents the BTCPay for WooCommerce V2 plugin for this purpose. It connects the WooCommerce checkout to a BTCPay store using an API key and webhooks.

The gateway is enabled in WooCommerce, creates a BTCPay invoice for an order and sends status changes back to the store through the configured webhook. The complete flow should be tested with a small purchase before launch.

Use the current V2 plugin

The BTCPay documentation refers to the current WooCommerce V2 plugin. It explicitly describes the former BitPay-API-based legacy plugin as unmaintained. NetPayCrypto therefore configures the current V2 flow.

Install a plugin or manage the complete operation?

The plugin establishes the technical connection. Reliable operation also depends on the BTCPay store, wallet connection, API permissions, webhook availability, updates, backups and WooCommerce order statuses working together. NetPayCrypto manages this complete technical setup while wallet control remains with the merchant.

How the WooCommerce Bitcoin integration works

  1. Review the store and system versions. We check WordPress, WooCommerce, PHP, HTTPS, existing payment methods and relevant extensions.
  2. Connect the BTCPay store and wallet. A logically separated merchant store is configured and connected to the merchant's own wallet infrastructure.
  3. Install the BTCPay V2 plugin. The current plugin is installed through WordPress, activated and configured.
  4. Configure the API and webhook. The store is connected through the authorisation wizard or appropriate API permissions, and the webhook status is verified.
  5. Enable and test the gateway. Bitcoin is enabled in WooCommerce and tested with a complete test order.
  6. Operate the service. After launch, we provide monitoring, controlled updates, backups and technical support.

How much does it cost to accept Bitcoin on WooCommerce?

The standard setup costs 99 EUR as a one-time fee. The ongoing managed service starts at 29 EUR per month and increases in tiers according to monthly Bitcoin on-chain payment volume. NetPayCrypto does not charge a percentage transaction fee.

Bitcoin network fees and costs for hosting, WordPress or WooCommerce extensions, wallet services or exchanges may still apply. The exact store configuration determines the final third-party costs.

Current service scope and limitations

  • Lightning: Bitcoin On-Chain is the standard service. Lightning can be added only by individual written agreement, using a merchant-controlled node or Lightning connection and after documented pre-live acceptance.
  • No automatic fiat settlement: NetPayCrypto does not currently convert payments to euros automatically.
  • No custody: NetPayCrypto does not hold merchant funds and never needs the seed phrase.
  • Compatibility: Themes, checkout blocks, caching, security and other payment plugins may require additional testing.
  • Updates: Major WordPress, WooCommerce, PHP or plugin updates should be checked for compatibility in advance.
  • Legal and tax matters: Merchants should clarify the legal and tax treatment with qualified advisers.

Frequently asked questions

Can WooCommerce accept Bitcoin payments?

Yes. The BTCPay for WooCommerce V2 plugin connects WooCommerce to a BTCPay store using an API key and webhook and provides a payment gateway for checkout.

Does NetPayCrypto use the old BTCPay WooCommerce plugin?

No. The standard integration uses the current V2 plugin. BTCPay describes the former BitPay-API-based legacy plugin as unmaintained.

Does the service support Lightning?

Yes, by individual written agreement. The merchant must control its own node or Lightning connection. NetPayCrypto does not operate a shared merchant balance or receive node seeds or private keys. Channels, inbound liquidity, backup and recovery, monitoring and an end-to-end test using a real payment must be accepted before launch.

Who controls the Bitcoin?

The merchant connects their own wallet infrastructure and retains control. NetPayCrypto does not hold Bitcoin and never needs the seed phrase.

Are payments automatically settled in euros?

No. Automatic fiat settlement is not currently part of the service.

How long does setup take?

Standard integrations can often be completed within a few hours. The actual time depends on system versions, hosting, access permissions and existing extensions.
